Magali Carrasquillo is a renowned Puerto Rican actress, educator, commercial voice talent, and cultural producer. She holds a B.A. in Humanities with a double concentration in Hispanic Studies and Drama from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus, and pursued graduate studies at the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Morelos in Cuernavaca, Mexico.
With a career spanning over 60 theatrical productions, her work ranges from children’s theater and comedy to experimental and dramatic stage pieces. Notable performances include Puerto Rico fuáby Carlos Ferrari, Bosque mágico, el musicalby Brunilda García and Millie Gil, Blood Weddingby Federico García Lorca, and La nostalgia del quinquéby Teresa Hernández. In 2009, she marked her 30th year in the performing arts with the acclaimed solo show Mi vida es mía.
On television, she has starred in miniseries, telenovelas, and films such as Las guerreras, Asesinato en primer grado, Yara prohibida, and Vivir para ti. She also stood out as a cultural reporter and TV host in popular Puerto Rican shows like Cultura vivaand Ellas al mediodía. In 2020, she joined the cast of Súbete a mi moto, the Amazon Prime miniseries based on the story of Menudo.
Her film credits include El sueño del regresoby Luis Molina Casanova, Kabo y Platóndirected by Edmundo Rodríguez, ¿Quién eres tú?by Ari Maniel Cruz, and the Goya-nominated debut feature La peceraby Glorimar Marrero. She also appears in the short films ¿Nos conocemos?(Carla Cavina), La amante (Patty Cruz & Adrián Pérez), and Nos persiguen (Paulís Cofresí).
As an educator, Carrasquillo has taught diction, advanced Spanish, psychodrama, theater, and communications, integrating theater techniques into her teaching. She served as program coordinator for Artes en la Educaciónand Arte en los Barriosat the Puerto Rico Institute of Culture, and in 2003, she was elected president of the Puerto Rican Actors’ Guild.
Her artistic excellence has been recognized with two “Best Supporting Actress” awards by the Puerto Rican Critics Circle in 1988 and 1994. Passionate, versatile, and committed to cultural development, Magali Carrasquillo remains a powerful presence in Puerto Rico’s artistic landscape.
